Wally, if you didn't play football, you probably don't understand my comments. In short, kids who go out for football are usually your hard core toughest kids on campus. They enjoy the sport no matter the outcome of the game.
I played middle linebacker and once in a while tight end. Even when we lost, I went home feeling great if I had a chance to put a solid hit on a prima donna running back. I enjoyed throwing a shoulder into a QB running and end around and seeing him fly into his bench.
So yes, losing sucks but kids can walk off that field with personal stats and self satisfaction. The Warrior starting QB who is hurt already has division 1 colleges looking at him That kid, even playing for GC, will have opportunities based on his stats, not on wins and losses. Certainly you can see that.
People who know nothing about sports think moving into the South 7 is going to be easy. Carbondale and Mount Vernon have always given GC a tough game as has Marion.
Centralia will be a good match up. Cahokia and Althoff have tough programs. Cahokia usually brings speed (unless Sunket has recruited those players away) and a decent passing game. Althoff has a tough, in your face football program and some big kids. We'll see tough competition in that conference.
Now I realize a guy who played 2 years of high school baseball for the Lancers and then only when they had an 8 run lead in the 6th inning, probably doesn't have a clue about any of what I just said but trust me, it's the truth. LOL, just kidding Wally. You know you're one of my favorites.
