There are 5.7 million registered cars in the state of Illinois.
For the sake of argument, let's say that one third of them are going to pay a late fee on their plates since the recent changes in notifications.
I'll round it up to two million cars. I think the current registration fee is $98 Late fee adds on $20 (I think)
2 million cars at $98 for license = $190,600,000 2 million cars at $20 late fee = 40,000,000
OK, let's say every single person renewed their plates on time:
5,770,000 cars at $98 - $565,460,000 and this figure does not include motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles, trailers, etc.
The revenue is staggering. I don't know what the cost was for issuing the notices but do realize the notifications were an expense, so not sending them will save a lot of money.
But it's the late fees that help boost this revenue even more.
I'd like to know how much interest the state is earning on our tax dollars by not paying the state's bills.
Cutting programs, not paying bills, extra revenue from the license plates....you'd think we would be almost out of the hole with the help of the immense amount of interest being collected alone.
Each day Rauner and these other idiots refuse to compromise and pass a budget is only adding money to the till. So maybe that was Bruce's plan to begin with.
