Happy New Year to all!! Today we started a very positive 2016 with a tremendous in service staff development day. We featured Mr Craig Lindvahl a member of the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Executive Director of the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship as our keynote speaker. He emphasized that today's students are the best learners ever with their potential and capacity to learn and apply the skills we teach them. It's all about the teachable moments and capitalizing on the opportunity to create relationships and make a difference. Staff provided great breakout sessions in various aspects of education. We were also pleased to have presenters from Chestnut Health systems, Jamie Mertens-Perry and Karen Tilashalski, and Mark Voegele from Express Employment Professionals. It was a very comprehensive well rounded day. Just a reminder next Tuesday January 12 at 5PM at the High School PAC we will have our first Board Meeting of the new year. In open session we will provide a presentation to the Board featuring our Pre-K through 4 restructuring plan. I commented in my last message on December 23, about the efficient and effective structure this plan will provide for our students. I have read the latest article in Saturday's Belleville News Democrat about the concerns in regard to the Early Childhood Program. I will also stand up for my comments that the program will be not be cut, and it will be an integral part of our overall comprehensive Pre K through 12 educational system. Let's have a great positive beginning tomorrow as we are pleased to welcome our students back to school.

    Respectfully,
    Mr. Jim Greenwald
