I doubt that someone who would qualify for a free or subsidized education would be able to join a frat.
I know of nothing currently stopping someone with a Pell Grant from joining a frat. Nor would such a limitation ever be imposed. I'd hazard a prediction that: should college become free, it will be free only to those who join frats the government deems worthy. A dubious idea indeed, when you consider a few elite frats (who's members have shown a notable lack of intelligence) run the country.
Just how would you decide which kids are worthy of a college education?
The ones that are willing to work for it would be a good place to start. I don't mean by shoving coke at the mill, but if thats how they have to do it, they will. College ought be off limits to those adverse to work, although that is what they are quickly catering exclusively too.
I would hope any plan like this would include trade schools or other types of training.
In High School, they used to call that "Shop Class". Trades take a while to learn, but most don't require college, they are best taught with on the job time, through paying apprenticeships. Unfortunately, like college, they are best left to those who actually WANT to learn.
