Oh I get what you're saying HC. I just don't think, especially faced with some of the cuts, you're going to get school employees to give up their salaries without a fight. Hell, people at McDonald's, a brainless, non-skilled job are demanding higher wages to flip burgers and screw up your order.
They'll put a bunch more kids in classes and as a result be able to eliminated some staff. That's probably what should have been done before.
I'm not sure what profession you're in. When I was in business, I very seldom answered my phone. My time was more productively used performing my main task. I paid a secretary quite well to screen those calls and shield me from nonsense.
I think you'll find out though if you try to call the district office you'll get one of those mechanical switchboards. Yeah, it saves money but it irritates the hell out of me. The first time I call there and it says English or Espanol, I'm moving.
And what I said about the vote doesn't necessarily mean those no votes were against kids. It just means they didn't have the confidence or trust in the board to use the additional money in the right manner. It won't matter though. If they go through with the cuts the teachers and janitors will still get increases in the years to come. They'll just get them on the back of kid's programs, class size increases and loss of staff as opposed to we the taxpayers forking out a couple hundred more a year.
Let's face it. With the money we all just saved by voting this down, none of us are going to Disneyland.
