Elcooktsta, you hit it on the head sir. First, it is a disgrace that such a small amount of the population actually showed up to vote. Were they afraid of getting wet? Line too long at the welfare office and they got delayed? Baby Mama couldn't find a sitter? Those who don't get the property value thing just don't understand simple math. You will lose more in depreciation of your home value than you would have paid in additional taxes over a ten year period. If the schools cut some of the programs that families hold as important, such as band, sports, etc.... the families who can afford to bail out will. If my son played football for ten years and I found out going into his junior or senior year that there would be no team, we would move. I believe this issue has separated the community a much as the strike did back in 2001. People who won, actually believe they won. People who lost are angry, hurt, disappointed. It's going to take some time to prove who was right and who was wrong. As an old fart who has been around the track a couple of times I will guarantee you that two things will now happen. The school board will have to borrow more money which we, the taxpayer will pay back. There will be some cuts made if for no other reason to prove that this is a bad situation. We all need to find some common ground on which to move forward and rebuild our community. Ask the people of ESL, Madison and Venice what happens when you lose schools, parks, and sound infrastructure. I would encourage the board to run this referendum again next year. Edwardsville ran theirs two or three times before it passed. Maybe if the amount is reduced or a time is locked in it would have a better chance. Finally, to those who felt obligate to vote no, you were well within your right to vote that way. I would only ask that IF the board goes through with some drastic cuts that you felt were only a bluff, you would stand tall and say you accept that without whining, crying and b###hing. You got what you asked for. Now you have to live with it as do we all.
