Sorry I should have posted under this response: Edwardsville did that same thing years ago. They passed their bond issue after a third or fourth time to build new buildings and after threatening to cut some extra curricular functions. If this increase doesn't pass my guess is whether they like it or not the board will have to make some tough decisions.

I do agree though that it is a State wide problem. I dont know whether I will vote yes or no, I fear most taxpayers honestly can not afford higher taxes, the steel mill is up in the air right now, but if we dont give the school district enough money to help ours schools it will affect our property value and the whole community may change for the worse. As far as layoffs my fear is that the class size will get larger which will bring even more problems to this school district. Unfortunately band and football may have to get cut extra curricular is the least of the school districts concern. The new Governor of Illinois promised to put the schools first on his agenda but I think Granite City needs it now. I believe it was 2007 that I first heard of tax cuts to the schools as well as around that time Harry Briggs begged for a tax increase.

I planned to vote no now I am thinking about voting yes I honestly may have to just sit this one out.
