    Dear voters.

My name is Nick Raftopoulos and I am running for City Council in Ward 3 in the April 7th 2015 election. I strongly believe that I am the best candidate because I have a vision for Granite City, which I believe will benefit this community. I am 21 years old and currently attending Southwestern Illinois College. I am currently the Student Trustee for Southwestern Illinois College. In this position I represent more than 13,000 students on the Board of Trustees and I make certain that those student's voices are heard.
I have volunteered in New Orleans to rebuild houses in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
I travel to New Orleans during spring break, with Phi Theta Kappa which is the honor society of Southwestern Illinois College. I will be volunteering there again this year.

    My platform
•Improve residential and business roads. We need to make our roads safer for people to drive.
•Get rid of the patronage system. A person should be appointed to a position, not because of who they know, but because they are qualified for that position.
•Continue the revitalization of Downtown Granite City
•Elected officials need to be more accessible to the people. Establish public meetings for residents to exchange ideas for the betterment of Granite City.

    About me
•Political Science major with a minor in history at Southwestern Illinois College
•Eagle Scout, built a shed for the Granite City Animal Protection Agency
    •Serve as Precinct 14 Committeeman
•Participated in Illinois Boys State for instruction in state and city government operations
•Phi Theta Kappa President at Southwestern Illinois College
