They (either party election committees and local, county, state and national party election and party administrators and candidates) watch your voting record very carefully, and can come very close to determining how you probably voted just with their legally available records.
With a little help from their friends, they can probably find out anything else they need to know, too.
It's not an unreasonable question, though. "Why didn't you vote?"
