there are good cops and bad cops...but i think everyone generally supports the idea of police. everyone rallies behind the police, and even try to rectify the behaviors of the bad ones (we call them cop apologists) and if a bad cop is truly exposed, we all say "well that is a bad cop, but most cops are good people." why is it so hard to do the same for these american people? there are good protesters and bad protesters...but i think almost everyone generally supports the idea of protesting. people rally behind the good protesters, and even try to understand or to some extent rectify the behaviors of the bad protesters and if a bad protester is exposed we should all say "well that is a bad protester, but most protesters are good people." it is no different...because just how you show this one video of people chanting at the police (their enemy in this scenario) i could provide 10 videos of peaceful protests met by police brutality. the woman who was praying was a white woman from a local church...and she got a rubber bullet to her face as she prayed. i have been there myself and saw cops calling people "animals" and "monkeys" with their name tags covered up. at one point they were wearing bracelets that read "i am darren wilson," thus showing the community that they support the cop who caused all of this ruckus. the cops view this as us vs them...so is it so hard to believe the people would react the same way? cops assaulted people left and right for over a week, but the media was intent on only showing a protester throwing back a lit tear gas cannister (which is an illegal chemical weapon banned under the Geneva protocol back in 1996.) the initial police reaction raised alarm around the whole country. you can not sit there and say cops have been angelic in the past few months and these protesters are all nothing more than rabid aggressors...then expect to be taken seriously. there are peaceful protests. every single day. the majority of the protests are peaceful...and there are some black youth who feel there will never be equality and grow more and more disillusioned as this process carries on. we should work towards bridging our divisions and seeking justice objectively. my solution from the start was MORE CAMERAS ON COPS...i think EVERY cop should have a camera on them at all times while on duty...and i am happy to say that this initiative is growing in popularity. the other moderate solution is for the current DA to recuse himself of his position and allow a special prosecutor to take over. if this goes to trial and he is found innocent or guilty, i like many other liberals would support that decision...however...if this never goes to court i will not support that decision. it needs to go to trial for the disruptive (albeit peaceful) protests to stop.
