the same behavior happened out there...
short anecdote...once upon a time when i was in 6th grade, i was riding my bike home from a friends house before dark and decided to cut through the park. when i got by the basketball courts, from a group of white kids i heard "HEY! That's my bike!" i ignored it. i tried to keep going. they were much older than me and chased me down on their bikes and cut me off. i told them it was my bike, but one of the boys decided to punch me in the face. i kept my mouth shut and took my punch. they rode off laughing.
the point of this story is that there has always been hoodlums in the park, ever since i was young. kids would graffiti walls, fist fight, bully, cuss, and generally make some people dread that part of the park...and they were white.
the basketball court stayed.
now we fast forward to today, and the crowd of hoodlums is now black, and the courts are taken down and moved, and an ID is required to use the out-door sporting grounds.
is it that the area saw an increase in crime and ill-behavior - or is it that some of these old people who have lived in a white town their whole life simply saw an increase in black people?
maybe i am wrong - but many of my friends from around the area, myself included, feel the action is yet another racist action taken by a historically racist town.
not asking you to agree. simply sharing my opinion.
