I'm kinda a fence straddler as far as things like this. I don't want to raise a child who is sheltered and thinks that the world is Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood because there are bad people who do bad things. I think movies and games can be helpful in exposing kids to things that they wouldn't ordinarily experience firsthand (or at least, you certainly don't hope so) IF AND ONLY IF the parent is there to put some perspective on what they see. If you see a movie with a violent home invasion, then you need to talk about it and say that this movie was make believe BUT it does happen. Use these experiences as a learning tool.
