Played golf in the Warrior football scramble this past Sunday. First and foremost, way to go Granite Park District. Even though it was wet that day the course is looking nicer. The paved lot was a great improvement. Keep it up.
Now for the issue. Talked to a county worker that day. He claims that the local group known as Solid Granite City has been talking to the county about a possible merger of District 9 with Madison and Venice. He "claims" that members of that group have approaced the regional department of education.
So what do you all think? I guess my first question is why is this group doing this? What are the ramifications of such a merger? Do the teachers of those schools lose their jobs or do they take the jobs of Granite teachers? Does the school board here take on the responsibility of caring for the buildings in those communities? Who pays the bus bill? If my son or daughter would apply for a job in Granite would they be knocked out by a Venice resident who hasn't paid taxes here all his life like my family has?
I don't know what the benefits of this would be. If I were on the Madison or Venice school board I would be insulted that this group started this without approaching me.( Maybe they did. If so, that dog doesn't hunt).
I know Alderdan visits from time to time and I wonder what a city official would think of this. Will it cost Granite more money than the two districts bring in? If so, who pays that bill?
Anyway, this is getting lengthy so I'll let you way in. If any of you know Mr. Engelke or Mr. Melton ( there was a third man involved but wasn't recognized by my contact)call them because afterall, you're going to pay for it.
