ok...i am trying to approach irrational thought with rational thought...but here goes nothing...

what is happening with the article you posted, is a civil war in which (from the article you posted...)

"Reports are mounting of atrocities by both sides in the conflict: those loyal to head of state Laurent Gbagbo, besieged in his presidential residence in Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s commercial capital, and those who follow northern leader and president-elect Allasane Ouattara."

there are 2 sides - fighting for power and control - if their side wins their religion wins.

again - thank god for seperation of church and state in this country...but anyways...

with libya - there are two sides but there is no RELIGIOUS fight. one side is that of the masses seeking a new government - and they are met by an oppressive dictator refusing to adapt and change.

    i am anti-war.

but even i can see a difference between america getting involved with libya with support from the UN; an effort to support the people's wishes for democracy - versus the civil/holy war you brought up.

if the civil war was over whether or not democratic means should be adopted in government, then america would likely intervene as has been the case with other countries for a long time.

but it is not the case in the ivory coast.

what makes you think this is America's role? why should america be involved in every war or every conflict across the planet??? and why, of all the wars, would America get involved in holy wars?

we are NOT a christian nation. we are NOT a muslim nation. we support democracy and free governments of the people.

war is ugly. it is probably one of the ugliest things on earth if not the ugliest. if we are to engage in wars - as a nation we should stand firm in our aspirations for the world - and remember who we are in the process.
