UN made the first move by declaring a no fly zone over libya. NOT obama. Yes, UN did make the first step, and most nations don't spend as much of their revenue on military, and many don't get invloved in world affairs militarily. in fact obama, at first, encouraged Gadhafi to improve things and did not ask him to stand down. As if a delusional and violent leader like Gadhafi would back down, there's no reasoning with lunatics.... when we are the military of the world - and we support world peace and work with global entities like the UN - we will be summoned from time to time to do the dirty work of the world. ...thus why i oppose being the military for the world. I oppose being the military of the world as well, it's not our place to send in our troops to get inlvolved in a foreign conflict, unless we, the US are attacked, or one of our closest allies is attacked without a just cause. Getting invloved in UN actions is exactly the reason why George Washington warned about entangling alliances, picking sides gets you into a lot of conflicts that you shouldn't get into. Would sending in US troops to overthrow the Libyian government be a noble cause? Sure, I could see more of a case being made for this than the war in Iraq, but is it really our place to attack a nation that has not carried out any hostile actions towards us in over 25+ years? Also, I think there is a lot of hypocrisy here in our foreign policy, why are we going into help overthrow one dictator in Lybia, when we supported Mubarak in Egypt for over 30 years, with over 80+ billion in military aid? We only backed away from him when it was apparent he was going to fall anyway. Why don't we invade Saudi Arabia or join in on the side of the rebels in Bahrain? Oh wait, the US government has made them our allies, those government probably wouldn't exist (especially Saudi Arabia), if it weren't for our alliance with them... My point is, I question the motives for this, when the US has shown so much inconsistency in it's support of freedom around the world, not just in modern times, but what about our past support for Augusto Pinochet of Chile, the Shah of Iran that was overthrown in 1979, Saddam Hussein (before the 1st Gulf War), Gen. Musharraf in Pakistan, Batista in Cuba (he was dicataor before the Castro brothers), I can go on and on. Supporting some dicators here, and not supporting others is incosistent and hypocritical. Either we should support all or none..... Quit riding the fence. I wouldn't have minded, really if the US had taken more of a passive role in supporting the rebels, like escorting supplies and workers from aid agencies into the rebel held port in Benghazi, and maybe even shipping in weapons, that way we are providing assitance without putting our troops in danger by getting them directly invloved in a war in nation that has not (recently) attacked us...
