    To me it really depends on what the final numbers are. Both salary and length of contract. If you had a crystal ball and could see that he would be productive for the next 8 to 10 years then a long contract at a high salary could be justified. However, his numbers have definatly declined over the last couple years and he is not as much a threat as before. Even at that however, he is the best 1st baseman in the game today. In 5 years that will probably not be the case though. So I guess I just rambled a bit to say I don't know how I feel. I'll have a better idea when I hear the final numbers (which probably won't be available until after the negotiations are done). I just wish they would get done before the season so everyone will know and that won't be lingering over the dugout all season.
