My definition of destitution may be somewhat different, if the definition means starving to death.

We are better off than most.

But I believe that to say that our poor have cell phones and x boxes is not an accurate picture.

I consider destitution when one is on the brink of homelessness and cannot afford to keep the home heated. I am not as concerned about AC unless it is someone who is elderly and unable to insure their safety.

I believe if we have developed as a society, so should our definition of destitution.

I believe all of the homeless qualify as destitute.

You may believe that even they have something to eat. And being in Granite City or St. Louis people are close to an urban center and social services are readily available.

I would suggest a drive through West Virginia, or I would suggest getting off the interstate and driving through some towns in the Ozarks.

What you find might surprise you. Some things I have seen in our own country are easily comparable with the slums I have seen in Mexico.

Difference is, we may have fewer people.

But I would not say that destitution is near zero whatsoever.

It's out there, and it's not readily visible, but I assure you it exists.
