My guess is this mayor, like those before him, go through the steps of complaining. However, from their political standpoint, they don't like to ruffle feathers.
You mention the word, "disrupt". Please define what that includes. Picket lines? Attending city meetings? Burning a building? Let's face it. There aren't enough people left in this town that can even spell pollution, let alone care enough to protest.
Mrs. O drug me to Wal Mart yesterday. Probably the first time I've set foot in there in five years. What did I see? Overweight, hillbilly types wearing their pajamas or sweat clothes that hung off their lard asses.
Do you honestly think anyone would take them seriously if they protested?
My advice, if you're serious, go door to door getting petition signatures stating your case. Explain to people at the door, if they answer, what your concerns are. You'll need a few thousand signatures to make any noise. Send a copy of the petitions to the worthless U.S. Senators. Use an Edwardville return address, so they get opened. Drive to Springfield with a copy of the petitions. Ask to see our state representatives for a sit-down meeting where you can explain the concerns.
I admire your spirit. I had it when I was younger. What it comes down to is no politician likes to take on major corporations unless it's someone like Josh Hawley who still fights to get the Bridgeton contamination site cleaned up.
Oh and I do appreciate your articulate manner of addressing this issue.
they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....
