Granite City is not going to be a bedroom community next to a University that has transitioned from a commuter college to a more traditional college setting.
Comparisons with Alton, Belleville....Danville, Rock Island, Kankakee, Decatur, Rockford may be a better bet.
It's not so much to lower the bar and make low performance acceptable.
I won't opine on what I don't know (much) as I'm not close to the situation for any school district.
It's as simple as this....can your mom or dad help you with Alegbra 1 (1 and 2 first year at GCHS)?
My mom could....dad not so much...as well as first semester of Geometry 1.
However, once it became Algebra 2 (3 and 4 at GCHS) --- I was kind of on my own, but still had parents who would chew my ass for underperforming.
I won't pre-suppose that all the HS kids are in neglectful situations...or disrespect those who truly are trying.
It's just that your desire to compare things with Edwardsville are asinine in the highest degree.
If I were a voter in that district, I would expect better analysis of the metrics.
For example -- in my case... I did C or better in my math classes by the grace of God and luck... but in my profession - I may only use basic functions to solve for X....
I do not use anything that I took in Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Level classes.
If I went back to second year Algebra...or to Trig and College Algebra... I wouldn't know how to do any of those functions. I don't use those functions....and if I need them, I pay a contractor.
Stop trying to make these little political 'gotcha' points.... These people (Bender nad Worker) likely do not even care about what happens in Granite City.......they are more concerned about trashing Democrats.
And they're choosing Trump over America....because trashing Democrats is more important to them than the well-being of their rudderless nation.
When you ban books before you ban guns, you've admitted that you're more afraid of children learning than you are of children dying.
