Review the Madison County Health Department website:
https://www.co.madison.il.us/departments/health/index.php
The goal of social distancing is not just to prevent you from getting sick; it's also to prevent a run on health care assets. If 100,000 Illinoisans got sick, and 10% required hospitalization, we need 10,000 beds statewide. (at one time) Furthermore, all the doctors and nurses and ventilators necessary.
Now if we can slow the spread...we can save more lives as health care assets are still available for both ourselves and our neighbors.
Let's make no mistake...the economic consequences are dire here. But I think there are things we can do. Follow the advise of health care leadership. Heed warnings. Protect your neighbors; be a neighbor. If you have a health care worker in your neighborhood, thank her and mow her lawn. She's busy now. Some folks here on GCG have come up with a thread to help seniors.
Is it possible to come up with a separate GCG board under the heading of "I Really Need this Right Away" for neighbors to be just that. Maybe all they need is a prayer; that's ok, we all need prayers now.
Politicians need to lead, follow, or get out of the way; better yet, come up with innovative solutions.
Folks these days will define us. First as Americans, and second as human beings.
