There were so many other possible ways to handle this situation, the method she chose, speaks volumes of her patience and tolerance, or the lack of, when dealing with children. Less than two weeks into the school year for a five year old, the ridiculous over reaction of this teacher will be what stays fresh and foremost in the mind of this child everyday he has to walk back into her classroom.
I am not far from 60 years old, and 50 plus years later I still remember my first day of kindergarten. My first ever class assignment was folding a sheet of notebook paper to make a snow flake. I cut along the wrong edge, and when I unfolded the paper, my would be snow flake fell into pieces.
Instead of showing me what I did wrong and how to do it the correct way, I was sentenced to the corner of the class room where I stood with my 5 year old nose in the corner for half of the day while the entire class and teacher carried on with their school day.
My very first day of kindergarten I learned to be scared of that teacher, scared to death of making another mistake. I remember at the age of 5 my only goal in that class was to go unnoticed. I was scared and hated school, and more than that, I hated that teacher. I missed my mom, my cartoons and the safe haven of my house.
Thank you for the memories Mrs. Lambert.
