What we need is alderman who can go to meetings without falling asleep or who actually have some interest besides the money they receive. Quality vs. Quantity so to speak.
I would like to know what city building is being used as a church. Is the church renting the property?
Consistent code enforcement is definitely needed. Too many areas where we need to be more aggressive. Too many favors being done and way too much time to bring cases to an end.
Stronger police presence would also be good. I would love to see an on foot downtown patrol around the theater and the new restaurants. I know for a while they had a bike patrol but that fell by the wayside I guess. There are ten alderman who earn somewhere around $7,000 a year. Let them serve for free and put that money into two cop salaries.
In other post you spoke about the economic developer. I agree that the position is no longer needed as it has become nothing more than a patronage job. They mayor is sharp enough along with his attorney staff to deal with developers. The savings on that job could also go to more police officers on the street.
You bring up some very good points. I hope they generate discussion.
