I am the daugter of Fred Mirante, a long time member of Local 174 in Seattle. My dad Fred and my father in law Rudy Barber died of a rare almost 100% fatal cancer called Mesothelioma 36 days apart in 2002. This type of cancer is caused by exposure to asbestos. It is truly a horrible disease. Fred Mirante was involved with an organization trying to eradicate this disease before he died. So that other families may have hope, my husband and I are having a golf tournament fundraiser for MARF (Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation)MARF website is www.marf.org for more info. about MARF.
