After viewing many messages on this Teamster Web Site there seems to be a Big Division on whether you can work after you retire and still collect your Pension and Benifits from your Teamster Locals. It all seems to Hinge on where you live or What Teamster Conference you live or worked in.
I retired from Local 802 in Long Island City, NY after 31 1/2 years of service. I worked for Various Bread Companies in the New York Metro Area that went out of Business. After each company folded I realized I was not getting any younger and didn't want to start at the Bottom again so I retired
I specificlly asked my Local President if I could get a job after I retired to supplement my Pension until I reached the age of 62 and Social Security. I wasn't looking to make a Million Dollars.
He then informed me that I could take any kind of a job I wanted to as long as it wasn't in the Baking Industry in which I retired from. If I wanted to Work in the Baking Industry I would have to Work Beyond a 100 Mile Radious of Local 802's Jurisdiction or Jeapordize losing my Pension and Benifits!
First of all I can't understand why some of you retired members can't work as long as you are not working the same job you had as a Teamster in your area, and why some of us can work as long as we all abide by the rules that I stated above which I abided by as I am fully Retired now. All Teamsters should be treated equally!
