suspension of pre-funded credits, non-medicare
Posted by Les Anderson on 12/20/2010, 3:29 pm
Thanks to the IBT and YRCW, pre-funded credits for non-medicare retirees have now been suspended. For me, this means my monthly premiums have just gone up $330.00 to a total of $511.00. Retiree and Spouse is now $1022.00 a month for non-medicare HMO. How do they expect anybody to be able to pay this? This is a direct result of YRCW not paying into the plan for nearly 2 years, and has been extended till the end of the Master Freight contract. I was an active Teamster for 28 years and have been retired for 5 years. I drove for ABF and was a shop steward for around 10 years. I have always been a very strong supporter of the Teamsters union, but now feel like they have thrown me under the bus to protect YRCW. I'm sure they saw this coming. I did. I was always led to believe that retiree's were the foundation of the union. I'm not so sure anymore. And shame on the Teamsters at YRCW for voting yes on these concessions. You have hurt every non-medicare retiree covered under the Master Freight Agreement. You could have shone some backbone and voted no like ABF did. What about the guys getting ready to retire but now can't afford the medical premiums because of this. I worked long and hard to earn my pension. I thank the Teamsters for providing the peer 80 plan which allowed me early retirement, but now I can't afford the medical. This is all just wrong! Anybody else feel like the bus has rolled over them too? Les
