Hi Pat,
First, I am so sorry for your loss. A passing of a love one is always hard.
The mist could be a number of things.
You mention a wreath for Christmas, was there snow on the ground and the sun was shining? Alot of times mist as well as orbs are weather related.
Was it a cold day, where your children's breaths could be seen?
It might be a sign from your wife, in your mind, I believe, you need to erase any other posibility.
With out looking directly at the picture it is so hard to determine.
