There's barely enough room to service it with a J-type, which it comes with, and the correct exhaust pipe routing.
In this case it has an aftermarket falling-apart exhaust on it, which obviously have to be removed in order to drain and service the overdrive.
It also suggests that the unit hasn't been serviced since the exhaust was fitted.
It's especially concerning because the gearbox oil level was pretty low, and the drain plug magnet in the main case had a lot of fluff on it...

I have never worked on or looked at an overdrive. I assume what I am seeing in the pictures is a custom exhaust completely blocking the access to the filter. Is that right?

I had this in the shop a few weeks ago, early 70s TR-6 with an A-type overdrive; it reportedly had a cosmetic & light mechanical restoration a few years ago, owner new to TRs.
It was in for a few minor corrections and a thorough inspection.
Things were going OK until I went to check the overdrive filter...
