TJ, the oil pressure text in the owner's manual is misleading. In your last post you said:
{ The original owner's manual does say that the green oil light will remain on at idle and only goes out when the engine runs above idle speed . The owner's manual says the following:
“The centre indicator at the bottom of the dial glows green when the ignition is switched on and is extinguished when the engine runs in excess of idle speed .” }
What really happens is:
1) When the key is in the run position and engine off, the green light will be on.
2) When the engine is started and idling the light should be off.
I know the original wording suggests the light would be on at idle but that's not true on a healthy engine. The old hot-rod rule of thumb is/was 10 PSI at hot idle and 10 PSI for each 1000 RPM above idle until the relief valve opens. This is not exclusive to Triumphs, it is for virtually all engines.
Glen's is correct, the original factory switch turns "off" when supplied 5 PSI. Therefore, the light will be off at idle if you have acceptable hot oil pressure. Even a worn engine should develop more than 5 PSI at idle until the oil heats and thins.
