I fit them on all of my customers racecars, but I've kept the old Lucas starter on the GFs POS 1275 sprite r/c... partly cuz I'm stubborn and old-school, and partly cuz I hate throwing $$ at that thing, it's not a TR.
Well after just changing another starter ring gear, 4 race weekends on the last one (the braking g-load puts the drive gear into the ring), I finally got a modern starter for it.
Now it sounds kinda like a helo turbine engine starting up!
As has been explained to me by a friend in the automotive electrical bidness, they are all pretty much the same design, indexable for different applications, but as usual there are varying quality levels.

I did spend time on a project to modify a Honda/Denso gear reduction starter to fit the Mini. I started my GT6 carb work right after the starter project and realized that the gear reduction starter I installed in the GT6 looks to be almost identical to the one I modified for the Mini. Apparently a lot of the British car gear reduction starters available are based on Denso starters.
