Heck I would probably get another one to flog, and keep the original '66 as-is original.
Of course this is totally subjective, I'm pretty anal about preserving originality when practical, I'm still kicking myself for painting my TR-3 back in '81...
In any case it sure looks like a good solid car.

: Unless there is serious rust or damage
: issues, I'd say buff out that paint and
: see what you have, esp. if it's
: original paint and not a respray...
:
: I completely agree keeping it original.
: One thing about the early mk1 engines,
: I guess some of the parts are tough to
: come by, but judging by your comm# I
: doubt yours came with an early engine.
: Mine is KC1293 and I have what I think
: is the original block, a KC engine (not
: installed) that I am considering
: rebuilding. The one in my car right now
: is the later mk1 KD prefix. Eventually
: I'll revert the carbs back to ZS 150CD,
: but currently I have some modified
: 150CDSE.
:
: as far as originality, the only mods to
: my car I am doing is color. It was
: originally Royal Blue (code 56) but I
: am going a variation of 18, with
: matching interior.
: The other major change is a Delco
: alternator in place of the generator.
:
: I have no intentions of selling so I am
: building it how I like, but it's
: nothing that screams 'HEY, LOOK AT THIS
: MODDED CAR!" except maybe to the
: purists.

: Thanks for input. A few more questions
: for you. I noticed the engine installed
: is a MK III, not a II. I have read that
: the 2 and 3 have stronger studs than
: the MK 1, and I assume there are more
: parts available for them. FYI, the Comm
: No is KC6120, and the engine in it is
: KF1907. After reading your responses, I
: think I am going to do the following.
: Tell me if I am on the right path.
: 1. Rebuild and balance the motor,
: slightly hotter cam, a tiny bit more
: compression.
: 2. Lighten the flywheel.
: 3. Port the head, rebuild carbs and use
: the configuration of intake and exhaust
: for a MK 2 Motor
: 4. Install a camber compensator
: 5. Keep the points
: 6. Change to a modern oil filter
:
: I am getting a rather nice paint job in
: the original color, which is 66,
: Valencia Blue.

: Opinions needed please: I have a 1966
: GT6. It is a New Mexico car with no
: rust, and it is very straight. A Mk II
: engine is fitted, but I also have the
: original motor. Nothing else has been
: done to the car. I am considering three
: options: return the car to its original
: state, keep the new motor and update it
: for speed and safety, or let loose and
: make it dangerously fast. I have never
: driven the car. I bought it 5 years ago
: and am finally getting started on it.
: Input is very much appreciated. If I
: keep it as original, is it a reasonable
: hope that I can make it reliable and
: not leaky? Thanks!
