There is lots of online information about fitting glass to cars including illustrated text and videos. Below are two examples aimed at American cars. The process is still applicable with some minor exceptions.

Note that Jim used KY lubricant instead of soap (as do I). I don't have a preferred cord stock but I do suggest something large enough in diameter so you can get a good grip on it.
In the links above you will see them using various sealers. I do not use any if I am installing new rubber on a rust-free tub. I do not like the mess the sealers make.
Do not work alone. Have a helper push the glass down/in as you work the cords.
The hardest windshield install I have had was on our '72 Spitfire which still has the stainless trim strip that "snaps" into the rubber seal. Other British cars I have use a plated plastic lock strip that is much easier to install. If you are dealing with a car with the metal trim, read up a lot on what others have done to get that in place.
