I specifically asked my son about the tach hoping he would have noticed if it was bouncing or fluttering when the problem occurred. Unfortunately he only noticed the speed range he was in. I found it odd that the car did it for him in all gears and I couldn't make it happen in any.
Yesterday I reset the valves and installed a new set of points and a condenser. Today I will be changing the fuel filters and making sure all the electrical connections to the fuel pump and its relay are secure. After that I guess I'll just have to drive it on the weekends in the hope of reproducing the problem myself.
As you said, there isn't much to go on.

: Pretty vague at this point but if it does
: it anymore, try pulling out the choke
: and see if it clears up momentarily,
: which would indicate that it's going
: lean.
: Watch the tach, if it drops it could
: indicate a low-tension breakdown.
: Generally an ignition miss will be
: low-tension related if it's @ steady
: throttle, high-tension if under
: acceleration.
: Need a few more clues.
