Steve, I agree with Glen that the pump just isn't up to delivering enough oil at low speed. The valve appears to be opening between 60 and 65 PSI and my hot idle oil pressure is way below that.
I am going to drive the Spitfire "as is" for a while and see what the hot idle oil pressure is in the spring/summer before I consider any changes. As I mentioned, I am going to experiment with the modified oil pump Glen mentioned using the 6-cylinder rotors but I will not install that unless I have to.
Now that I am driving the car (it is normally driven by my older son) I am hearing lots of noises that make me wonder what I need to work on next.

Stick two more 1/8" thick washers under the spring and call it good.
