Is it worthwhile? Street engine with normal clearances? No. On a race engine that will run mainly in the 7-8k+ rpm range, with external filters, Accusump, cooler, and all of the hardware & -10 hose... I give it all the help I can!
84 YO & still racing? That's pretty impressive, good for him!

: So... a spacer between the open end of
: the oil pump body and the pickup
: head/flange? That is certainly easy
: enough. Is the the extra oil volume
: worth the effort? I may have an old
: cast iron GT6 pump and straight body
: 1300 pump to look at. As I said, I may
: not pursue this but it sure sounds
: interesting.

: We're in the south also but my
: father-in-law only wants to go to VIR
: since it is 1.5 hours from home. At 84
: he doesn't like long road trips
: anymore. I only turn wrenches. I
: don't drive the race car or the tow
: vehicle so I go along with whatever he
: wants to do. Sorry about the
: collector. Hopefully it won't be too
: hard to replace.

: The spacer is made out of flat stock,
: like a "sandwich plate"
: fitted between the housing and end
: cover.
: The DNS the last race is on me. I had
: recently convinced myself that I no
: longer needed to safety wire the
: collector because I had a good strong
: rear clamp to hold it all in place, not
: considering what would happen if the
: pipe broke off.
: The SOM even let us go out on the track
: and look for it during lunch break, no
: luck...
: Season never ends here in the south,
: last race mid December at Roebling
: Road, then we look at next years
: schedule, winter & spring are when
: all of the racers come down here, for
: every good reason...
