My first question is about the large threaded oil galley plugs... the ones that are horizontal and located under the end plates. I have one that is long, one that is short. Do any of you know which plug goes under the front plate and which goes under the back plate?
My second concern I have is the water jacket. The block was washed but I am cleaning it again myself. When I went to install the new core plugs I found a layer of fluffy rust on the inside of the water jacket. I would really like to get some or all of that out before I start the major part of the rebuild.
I am contemplating blocking off the openings where the water pump housing attaches and filling the water jacket with phosphoric acid like I would use on bodywork. After a few days I should be able to flush it out and remove a good portion of the deposits. Do you have any other/better suggestions for how to clean the water jacket?
Thanks,
Doug L.
