If you don't want to try that, you may want to measure the brass nipple diameter and approximate height of the old hardened seal. When you know the ID and the approximate cross-section/height you can visit the McMaster-Carr web site (mcmaster.com) and look for o-rings close to that size. They will sell to anyone but once you know the approximate size of the seal you could probably get it from a local bearing house. Once that round o-ring has been installed for a while I'm sure it will become a hardened conical seal also.
