Using that online tire size calculator you could "mock up" tires of various sizes by taping foam rubber or similar to one of your old tires/wheels. You could then support the lower suspension arm of the car to determine whether or not there might be contact between the tire and body/suspension. I know it sounds hokey but it would give you an idea of fit before committing to purchase.
The problem with the 185/70s must be that 1" offset you mentioned. The height of the 185s should be almost exactly the same as the 155SR13 tires that would have been on the car when new.
Sorry the 185s didn't work. A larger rim and lower profile tires may get what you are looking for but I won't hazard a guess about which combination would work best.
Let us know what you decide to use both in rim size and tires.

: Hey Doug.
: Thanks for the info. I found the tire
: size calculator especially useful.
: I actually went out and bought a new
: set of 185-70-13s and put them on my
: car. The tire gut said they were just a
: speck taller than the 195s. Well his
: speck is over an inch in diameter and
: apparently that inch is enough to make
: them rub a lot. I think some of my
: trouble is from the offset of my
: wheels. They stick out about an inch
: farther than stock. So I think I am
: going to get a set of 15 inch wheels
: with +25 offset and a set of 195-45-15
: tires. That should put the outside
: diameter at about the same size as the
: 195-60-13s(slightly smaller) and set
: the wheels in at least an inch. What do
: ya think???
