I blame this pressure plate failure on last year's failure of the release bearing. The release bearing seized and disintegrated. Though only minor scoring of the pressure plate fingers was seen at the time, I think the release bearing must have overheated the diaphragm fingers causing them to loose their temper. Over the last 9-10 months the release bearing just nibbled away at the fingers. They were all worn paper thin and folded in towards the flywheel.
We picked up a pressure plate and disk from a friend of mine and got everything re-installed by sundown. It was a very busy day.
