On the cable, I did this:
Pull the core cable out and set it aside. Then lay the outer casing and a stock outer casing alongside each other and mark a cut point on both. I cut mine about 3 inches back from the speedo so it is inside of the car and out of the weather. Deburr the grinder cuts with a dremel tool and small stone, or file, etc. Then splice the casings together with a 3 inch length of brass tubing and epoxy. The tubing is easy to find at any hobby shop, I think it is 1/4 inch od. Use the toyota core inside the joined cases, it will fit the speedo fine. Be sure of the lengths before cutting, in regards to the core. End result is a cable setup with the toyota trans fitting at one end and triumph speedo fitting at the other. Never had any problems with mine, so I will advise the same mod to you.

: Hi Dan!
:
: Need a little help here.
:
: The Toyota speedo cable I have, ends
: oddly at the speedometer end. The
: inside cable doesn't terminate with the
: normal, "pressed" square end.
: Instead, this one terminates with a
: squared plastic piece that is slipped
: over the metal cable and glued/melted
: inplace. And of course, the diameter
: of where the plastic mates to the metal
: cable is too wide to just pull out of
: the Toyota outer casing. I wouldn't be
: able to slip the Triumph outer casing
: over the the plastic fitting either.
:
: What's wrong here?
