: Slather the entire tank with soap, take a tire iron and pry up the crossbar as far as possible,lower the tank then attempt to squeeze it past those bolt holes without damaging it. It can be done, it's just not intended to have been necessary. There are so many things unnecessary on an early british sports car, like working lights, window cranks and windshield heaters. That's why the manuals for them are a pleasure to read and,if you buy a british car, you'll have plenty of opportunities to read them.
