Adapt Spit 1500 throttle bracket to GT6?

Anyone aware of a way to adapt the pivot-like throttle bracket from the Spit 1500 to a GT6. It looks like on the 1500 it actually bolts to a section of the intake manifold that the GT6 obviously doesn't have. Has anyone managed to figure out a way to

In short, I fitted a cable throttle to twin SU 1.75s on my GT6 using a Spit 1500 (or GT6 Mk3) pedal, eliminating the solid rod linkage, but I'm finding it far too "hair trigger" when on a direct cable to the carb throttle bar. I think I need something with a bit more preload, hence the interest in the Spit 1500 piece...
