PJ,
Front tyres have to do two jobs - steer and keep the car from flopping on the road. OK, the raea have to transmit power as well the antiflop job, but unless you are in the habit of doing donuts or tyre smoking starts.......
BUt your wear is 'mostly on the outer third'. That points directly to inadequate wheel camber for your driving style. Add more spacers (shims) between the lower wishbone brackets and the chassis rail. You need to get the steering re-calibrated after that.
The flat spots on the tyres? This is most strange, unless again you are in the habit of doing emergency stops and coming to a tyre smoking standstill. Is it one or both tyres? Because I suspect a brake problem.
Could the felixble hoses be detriorated inside, forming a one way valve effect so that the brake pressure persists as you drive off again? New hoses indicated, I think. No need for exspensive Aeroquip - just new rubber ones.

: Hi again..
: I,m wondering if there are any tire
: wear experts out there. My front tires
: are wearing considerably more than the
: rears. Mostly on the outer 1/3 of the
: tire. Also some checking or maybe you
: would call it flat spots evenly around.
: I have never had a professional
: alignment but I have done some very
: careful measuring and the best
: alignment I could with limited
: facilities..
: Any help is appreciated. Thanks.. P.J.
