I did Glen's method, come to think of it. Also used some liquid soap to get the lip started over the edge. More or less it was just brute force caused by frustration, as I recall

: Ed you can use a length of threaded rod
: & some flat washers & a couple
: nuts & "draw" them into
: the housing.

: Thanks Josh. Please indulge us with
: your
: installation method. Did you simply
: press the bearings in, or something
: else? Initially I tried to
: "taper/bevel" the bushing
: edges and apply a "C-5"
: lubricant with a C-clamp and various
: sockets. No luck. I've been thinking of
: putting them in the freezer and then
: pressing them in, but you know how the
: wife would through a fit finding
: car-parts in the Fridge/Freeze...

: I've done it...and it was no fun at
: all.
:
: to get them out without a press, I
: drilled the rubber about 50 times with
: a small bit, then burned the rubber,
: then it was loose enough to press out
: the inner section and rubber. Then I
: had to cut the outer metal collar off
: (I used a recip saw with a narrow
: blade) being careful not to cut all the
: way through and score the diff surface.
:
: Putting he new one in (OEM-style rubber
: one) was easy, pressed in using a small
: bench vise.

: Has anybody replaced their mount
: bushings? You know, the pair on the two
: rear lugs/ears that have a monster bolt
: pinning them to the chassis. I'm have a
: hell of a time pressing my new pair,
: and no machine shop locally wants to
: try. Thanks in advance. Ed.
