Carter, I just realised that you were in miami in '75
i spent about 6 months in miami around late '75
remember seeing a green '69 GT6 with NY plates?(w/windows down- no a/c)

: if i remember right, the compressor was
: mounted down low with an idler pulley.
: also, the cowl vent was sealed up, so
: you were recycling cabin air instead of
: trying to cool outside air.
: i think the car fetched around 8k on
: ebay (hth, howard)

: Had A/C experience with a 67 GT6,
: around
: 1975, in Miami. It was fitted with new
: (in 1975) Toyota Corolla hardware. I
: did not do the conversion.
: The evaporator unit was a standalone
: pancake that fit nicely into the
: passenger glovebox. The tiny compressor
: was down low, driven by an additional
: pulley grafted onto the crank.
: It would freeze your b*lls off in the
: worst Miami summer. You knew when it
: was running, took the edge right off of
: the performance alright. But
: considering the Corollas of the day
: were like 1.6-1.8 L, not a bad match.
: And sitting on the Palmetto expressway
: in Miami afternoon rush hour traffic,
: oh yeah, it was so worth it.

: I built one into a 72 many years
: ago.Evaporator and fans went into the
: glove box cutout with a compound curve
: face to fit the opening. Alternator
: hung low and a Sanden compressor sat
: high on a custom cut engine plate and
: the stock alternator mount.
: Worked wonderfully except it felt like
: you'd lost a cylinder when it kicked
: on. I always intended to convert the
: engine to a 2.5 to cope but instead it
: just sat in the yard for twenty years
: until I sold it last fall. It's
: undergoing a tart-up finally...

: you'd need one from a mack truck to
: keep
: a GT6 cool inside

: Instead of hijacking Howard's thread I
: thought I would start a new one. Air
: Conditioning in GT6/Spits experiences
: anyone?
: Thanks Scott
