Hey Tim, you can use the later Master Cylinder (76-80) on say an earlier 1500 model. Several years ago a friend of mine did that swap on a '74 model and I am planning to do the same to my '74 spit. I remember he had to make a little more space for the rear of the later master cylinder as it was a tad bit longer than the early "large cap version". He just made the recessed area behind the cylinder on the firewall a little deeper by making a small notch with a hammer and a punch, maybe 1/4" at best. Other than that it seemed like a straight swap. At the time my buddy did his car you couldn't get that "large cap master cylinder" (70-75) for less than $500.00! Another good point about the later model is that it is cheaper and the cap is so much easier to remove!

: OK, Is this a stupid question? Why can't
: you use a 1976 to 1980 brake master
: cylinder instead of the expensive 1970
: to 1975 model? What is the difference?
: I don't understand.
