It 'fits', as in the mountings are all the same. Depending on the year of Spitfire, you may have to swap out the diff-side U-Joints and yokes to the larger ones.
However, you may not be entirely happy with the conversion, as the acceleration will be down quite a bit. Also, since the motor will be running at lower RPM, it may not be capable of generating enough torque/power to maintain the same cruising speeds. A 1500 may have enough low end to pull it off.
Most Spitfires had either 4.11 or 3.89. If you already have a 3.63, then you're ahead of the game now.
Perhaps someone that's lived with this swap can chime in?
