It's possibly drawing some air but not enough to let the pump work properly for any duration. This would be most likely if you have the stock fuel pump fitted.
Like I said, this is a long shot, but it's not unknown to be the source of similar problems, and is easy enough to check & rule out before you start chasing your tail
.
Some of the later cars with EEC systems can also cause problems with venting (carb & fuel tank), but your early car shouldn't have any of that gear.

: I'll check it thanks. 2 thoughts make me
: think it may be something else. 1- it
: just started after using my car as a
: daily commuter since the fall of 08. 2-
: The car restarts if I am in a coasting
: stall on the highway and restart, the
: power is fine for the next duration of
: my commute of another 10 mins. or so.
: Is there a way for the vacuum to
: instantly release when the engines
: stops?

: Many things could cause this but one of
: the first things I check with these
: symptoms is to make sure that the fuel
: tank is venting properly. A simple way
: to check is to drive until it starts to
: crap out, and then quickly pop open the
: fuel cap. If you hear a swishing sound,
: and it restarts & runs properly for
: awhile, it is not venting & is
: building up a vacuum as fuel is burned
: off, increasing the load on the fuel
: pump.

: I have a puzzling issue with my GT6
: Mk1.
: Car starts fine, runs with good power
: until about 10-15 mins of fast highway
: driving. The engine then loses power
: and running at a top speed of around 60
: mph. In neutral, if I take my foot off
: the accelator the car stalls. It is
: easy to restart and then runs perfectly
: for the rest of the trip. Any
: thoughts? I changed the fuel filter
: thinking "ping pong ball"
: problem- no luck.
