Losing Power on the highway

I have a puzzling issue with my GT6 Mk1. Car starts fine, runs with good power until about 10-15 mins of fast highway driving. The engine then loses power and running at a top speed of around 60 mph. In neutral, if I take my foot off the accelator the car stalls. It is easy to restart and then runs perfectly for the rest of the trip. Any thoughts? I changed the fuel filter thinking "ping pong ball" problem- no luck.
