I have an alloy cover (finned, cast aluminum, no gasket leaks!) that I got from Scott Harper at Team Triumph. I had to mill the fins off the front two inches of the cover to clear the bonnet. My car is a '68, don't know if clearance changes with models. My sense is there is a lot of variation in these cars in how the engine sits in the mounts, bonnet adjustment, etc, so maybe you can find someone that has one and try it out first. I think the cover I have is interchangeably sold for GT6 or TR6.
If i understand your message, it sounds like you are running a TR6 head, which is a good 1/4" taller than a GT6 head, and will reduce clearance even more.
