FYI, the roto donut can seperate, but still look good with a static visual isnpection. But at speed and under load, you will get massive vibrations.
With the halfshaft out, you can use a big screwdriver or prybar between the tripods to stress each of the six sections tolook for seperation between the rubber and the 'plates'.

: Glen,
:
: I removed the half shafts and the drive
: shaft yesterday, so I'm certain there's
: no binding. I put it back together,
: swapped the front and rear tires, and
: went for a drive. I drove 3/8 of a
: mile and didn't think I'd make it back.
: There is now a banging sound in the
: drive train. I'm assuming it must be
: in the diff, although I always thought
: that diffs wouldn't cause vibration

: John have you tried the hose clamp
: trick
: as I responded to Oscars post a few

: Also to properly check a u-joint, the
: shaft has to be removed so you are able
: to feel the action of the joint. They
: can bind up & it won't always be
: apparent with the shaft still fitted.
: This can be the source of vibrations.

: Over the last couple of weeks vibration
: from the back of the car has started
: and has increased to a level that I
: thought something was going to go.
: Wheel beaings, rotoflex couplings,
: u-joints are all good. The input and
: output shafts of the diff feel good.
: Any ideas?
: Thanks!
